History of the Club The Mount
Gambier Rotary Club was formed in 1928 and the official
Charter Night Meeting was held in April 1929. It is the
second oldest club in South Australia, the oldest being the
Rotary Club of Adelaide which formed in 1923.
The club currently has an active
membership of around 40, and this includes several women. We
have on Honorary member, who has been a member of the club for
over 55 years!
The Club is run by a Board, which
comprises a President, VP, President Elect, Past President,
Secretary, Treasurer and the chairman of our main
committees. The committees look after Community service,
International service, Vocational development, Youth
development and Club service or administration.
We meet each Wednesday evening for
dinner at the RSL, and aim to have guest speakers address us
on a very broad range of topics. We sometimes meet at other
venues, perhaps visiting other clubs, doing educational and
vocational tours or just having an enjoyable night out!
Partners of club members are always welcome to attend our
meeting.
We view the fellowship as an important
part of what Rotary is about, but being such a service club
we are always keen to get involved in projects which improve
our community, help those in need and build international
understanding and friendship.
Our main source of funds for these
projects is the weekly Rotary Community Market held each
Saturday morning behind the Harvey Norman Store on Jubilee
Highway East.
We keep in touch with Rotary activities
at a local, state and international level via a weekly club
newsletter, a monthly “Rotary Down Under” magazine and the
Rotary International website.
